Department of Mineral Resources and Energy 2021 Bursary

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) was formed in June 2019, This was a result of a premeditated merger between the Department of Energy and the Department of Mineral Resources.

The mission of the department is to ensure, secure, and sustain the provision of energy and mineral resources for socio-economic development in the republic of Sout Africa.

  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
  • Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • Environmental Health and Management
  • Geology
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering (Extractive)
  • Mining Engineering
  • Mining Survey
  • Rock Engineering


Minimum requirements:


  • South African citizen
  • Currently in Grade 12 or completed Grade 12
  • Achieved a minimum level 6 for Physical Science AND Mathematics
  • Studying or intend on studying full-time in one of the mentioned fields of study (undergraduate only)
  • Preference will be given to first-year students
  • Studying or intend on studying at a University or a University of Technology in South Africa
  • Preferably from a rural area
  • Must be in financial need
  • Must be currently unemployed
